Guitar Chord Changes for the Beginner
Learning to change guitar chords is one of the most difficult things to do when learning to play guitar. It takes a technique for beginning guitar players to develop these muscles and also to train your ear to get the proper chord changes right. With practice and a bit of motivation it can be done with relative ease.
The idea for learning to change chords as a beginner is find a song you like. You will want to first memorize all the chords involved in the song, and then visualize exactly which fingers you will use to play the chord changes. Visualization techniiques are great when you are first learning chord changes and you are finding it not very natural in the beginning.
So, when you are learning to play simple barre chords, the most important finger is the index finger, which will squeeze all 6 strings across the fretboard. You will find as you move towards playing the chord, you have to position the index finger across the proper fret and along the fretboard before positioning the other fingers of the chord. You will find that primarily, the index finger and the thumb will stabilize on the guitar neck in order for the other fingers to press the other strings of the chord. The index finger is usually played on the lowest fret and the highest string where it could more easily find the proper note. The other fingers will follow the index fnger to complete the chord.
